Referee Votum for FOR1394 Renewal
The referees votum is to fully fund the renewal proposal for the DFG Research Unit FOR1394 "Nonlinear Response to Probe Vitrification", with only minor cuts in non-salary costs. In the coming weeks, this votum will be presented to the DFG senate for a final decision. Our research group participates in project P3 of the research group, with one PhD student to start in the coming months.
Outstanding Referee Award
The editors of the American Physical Society journals have recognized Thomas Voigtmann as an "Outstanding Referee".

Course on Classical Field Theory
In the winter term 2012/13, we will teach a Master degree course on Classical Field Theory at the University of Konstanz. The 4hrs/wk course is supplemented by 2hrs/wk tutorials and covers a broad mathematical introduction, continuum mechanics, Lagrangian classical field theories (in particular Maxwell's theory of electro-magnetism), and some general relativity.
Creep in Colloidal Glasses PRL
New experiments on model colloidal suspensions performed in collaboration with the Helmholtz Centre Berlin for Materials and Energy (HZB) shed light on the slow creep deformation of materials.
